David O. Russell to direct Uncharted movie

According to the Hollywood Reporter, David O. Russell has abandoned plans to head a flick based on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and will instead return to the fold for the upcoming movie adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

It was previously reported that O. Russell had decided to skip plans to front a big-screen version of Nathan Drake’s treasure hunting exploits, instead focusing on an undead version of the Elizabeth and Darcy love story.

However, the Flirting with Disaster director obviously found the temptation to adapt one of the PlayStation 3’s most celebrated titles too much, as he’s now signed a deal to both write and direct a film version of the critically acclaimed Naughty Dog title.

Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, commented: “David is a tremendous choice to take on this film,” adding, “He’s equally adept at combining all the classic elements involved in this property: great character development, strong comedy and amazing action sequences.

“He has a brilliant vision for this material and we know he will bring his original, unique voice to this adaptation.”

We’ll keep you posted on any developments as they break.
