Dead Island 2 isn’t currently in the works

Dead Island 2 isn’t currently in development despite rumblings to the contrary, publisher Deep Silver has said.

The original game proved a commercial success despite iffy reviews from critics, and was developed by Techland. However, while the company isn’t currently working on a sequel, fresh rumors have cropped up suggesting Yager may take the reins for a follow-up.

That’s at least according to IGN Germany, who have heard from a reliable source that developer Yager was poised to work on the new game. Furthermore, GI got in touch with Deep Silver and confirmed that discussion were on-going regarding Dead Island 2.

However, the publisher’s Guido Eickmeyer later contacted IGN denying the original story, though did add there is “a legitimate chance” that Yager may be snapped up, “and I would not even exclude the possibility that this could be something within the Dead Island franchise.”

"We have neither something in place or in discussion between the parties that would explain such a news, nor do we have Dead Island 2 in concept or production with external partners,” he added.

Dead Island was released in September 2011 for PS3, PC and Xbox 360.
