Dead Rising movie is ‘fun, scary, dramatic action,’ says director

Sony has announced that the movie adaptation of Dead Rising will begin shooting this week.

According to the film’s director, Zack Lipovsky, the flick—based on Capcom’s multi-million selling zombie video game franchise—will be like “Indiana Jones with zombies,” and offer cinema goers “fun, scary, dramatic action.”

The movie will star Jesse Metcalfe, Meghan Ory, and Virginia Madsen.

Don’t expect the likes of Frank West (he’s covered wars, ya know) to show up in the zombie-slaying actioner, though. The Dead Rising movie will instead weave its own unique spin on the series.

Some elements from the games will remain in place, however.

"The idea that you can be bitten and remain human as long as you take your medicine every day is very interesting and dramatic," Lipovsky told SlashFilm. "Similar to the social stigma of living with HIV.

"Another very cool element from the game is the zombies remember a little bit about their previous lives. There is something really haunting about seeing a zombie cop randomly firing his gun, or a zombie mum pushing a stroller."

Sony will bring Dead Rising: Watchtower to its streaming service Crackle, with a DVD release planned at a later date.
