Dead Space film still in the works, won’t be a prequel

Director D.J. Caruso has said that the planned movie adaptation of sci-fi horror romp Dead Space is still in the works, with the film makers currently in the process of working on a script.

Chatting with AreaGames, Caruso confirmed that the flick – a collaborative effort between Electronic Arts and Twilight’s Marty Bowen & Wyck Godfrey – won’t be a prequel as originally planned.

"We’re working on the story," he told AreaGames.

"We had one attempt of trying to do a prequel, but the story didn’t quite work out as well as we wanted it to. But if we can capture how – I don’t want to say, I guess, how scary or horrifying it would be to play that game because it’s really, really fantastic – it’d be fun to make that into a movie."

Back in January, Dead Space developer Visceral Games moved to quell fears of a cheap knock-off, insisting the movie would be “something really worthwhile.”

Stay tuned.
