Debut 38 Studios game to feature incredible development staff

The debut game from 38 Studios, the company started in 2006 by Curt Schilling, will be set in a “mysterious and magical new fantasy world" created by author R. A. Salvatore. EA and 38 Studios announced today Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the debut release from the studio.

The game was originally codenamed Project Mercury. Now we know the game is an open-world role-player game set in a fantasy world called Amalur. In addition to Salvatore setting the premise for the fantasy world, artist and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane is set to work on the visuals.

EA says Reckoning will bring a new level of intense action combat to the RPG genre. Ken Rolston, lead designer of RPGs Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, is set to lead development of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

The game is scheduled for release in fall 2011 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. More details are expected at Comic-Con this weekend. With a great staff working on the game, we are certainly excited to hear more about Reckoning.

“Reckoning is a great representation of how a team of incredibly talented and creative people with expertise in different areas can come together and complement each other so well,” said Jen MacLean, CEO of 38 Studios. “We are thrilled to be developing an open-world RPG under the leadership of one of the greatest RPG designers in the industry, with creative direction by one of the most iconic artists of our time, set in a rich universe imagined by one of the top fantasy genre authors in the world. We can’t wait to share the first details of this universe we have been so dedicated to building over the past few years.”
