Demon’s Souls annihilates sales expectations

Demon’s Souls has sold 280,000 copies as of February 28, 2010, well ahead of its projected North American sales of 75,000 units.

All in all it’s been a good quarter for Atlus Ltd. The company’s North American division, Atlus USA, has seen a 236.1% increase in operating profit in the first half of its fiscal year when compared to the same period last year.

The company’s games have consistently exceeded sales expectations this quarter (with the exception of Shin Megami Tensei: Stange Journey, which sold a still respectable 152,000 units).

Considering how critically acclaimed but minimally marketed so many of Atlus’ games have been, these sales numbers are an encouraging sign that quality is more relevant to game sales than flashy advertisements.
