Destiny: Rise of Iron guide – how to get Skeleton Keys

The new Skeleton key system is driving players wild. Destiny: Rise of Iron has been out for a few days now, and at this point you’ve probably blasted through the admittedly short campaign and checked out a few new maps in the Crucible. However, there’s plenty more to unearth from Bungie’s shared-world shooter with this latest expansion, among which includes a host of new collectibles, one of which are Skeleton Keys.

What is a Skeleton Key?

Skeleton Keys give you access to the new horde chests that are available at the end of a strike. The chests themselves give up some brilliant loot, and are only able to be opened by a Skeleton Key, so you’ll definitely want to hunt for them.

These items drop in strikes, so that means there’s going to be some grinding on your part. So, fire up any of the new strike playlists and blast through the mission, and you’ll find that Skeleton Keys will drop randomly. Yes, randomly, so there’s no sure-fire way to grab them other than embark on another grinding spree, although that’s something Destiny players are probably used to right now.

On another note, there is one guaranteed way to obtain a Skeleton Key. Once you complete the Rise of Iron campaign, you’ll nab a quest from Shiro that asks you to complete several tasks, including beating the Wretched Eye Strike and Sepiks Perfected Strike. Completing this quest line rewards you with a Skeleton Key.

We recommend grabbing a friend to help you in the Strikes to grind Skeleton Keys rather than team yourself up with some random matchmaking Guardians. Good luck!
