Destiny has been out for six months now, so that’s plenty of time for you to have got stuck into Bungie’s shared-world shooter to uncover its deepest secrets, mine a few loot caves, hit level 32, and get your hands on some of Xur, Agent of the Nine’s rarest Exotic wares. Sure, Destiny wasn’t quite the futuristic blockbuster many hoped for, but its sumptuous environments, addictive gameplay, and brilliant multiplayer have obviously appealed to a broad range of gamers—over 17 million of you have registered your copy, after all.
With most of the game’s content now blown wide open, we can start to look at some of the best exotic items that Guardians should get their mitts on, especially as new players are joining on a weekly basis.
And, a game like Destiny is only as good as its weapons. So, what essentials should you have equipped? Here’s five Exotic weapons you simply must own in Destiny.

Ice Breaker
This Exotic Sniper Rifle has become a staple of any Guardian’s arsenal since the beginning, and it’s not hard to see why. Apart from the fact each shot packs a massive punch, boasting a damage rating of 331 when fully upgraded, the Ice Breaker is unique in the sense it regenerates ammo. Yep, no need to hunt around for those green ammo boxes; just wait a few seconds and this rifle will refill its ammo chamber one round at a time. Needless to say, the Ice Breaker has become a valuable tool in camping during boss encounters, allowing players to stay out of harm’s way and send an endless stream of bullets at their target.
Gjallarjhorn
There’s tons of Rocket Launcher worth of inclusion on this list, but the Gjallarjhorn beats them to the punch. To put it succinctly, this is not only one of the best heavy weapons in the game, but one of the best weapons in Destiny, period. It’s extremely damaging, can track its target, and also has the ability to split into multiple warheads, further increasing its damage capabilities. No boss is safe when one of your party is wielding this meaty rocket launcher, and it’s also one of the must-have weapons for defeating Crota.
Hawkmoon
This PlayStation-exclusive Hand Cannon has become a favorite of Guardians, and is one of three Exotic magnums found in the game, the others being The Last Word and Thorn. However, Hawkmoon is the ultimate choice due to its unrivalled damage output; not only does each shot pack a mighty punch, but fully upgraded, it has the chance of delivering critical hits at random intervals in each clip. If you’re a crack shot with this, then your opponents will drop like a sack of potatoes after only a shot or two. Even if you aren’t, the Hawkmoon will make short work out of any Fallen, Hive, Cabal, or indeed rival Guardians in the blink of an eye.
Vex Mythoclast
Obtained after beating Vault of Glass on hard mode, this Exotic Fusion Rifle is a beast to wield, and has become a favorite choice among Guardians participating in the Crucible and PvE alike. Aside from boasting some great stopping power, the Vex Mythoclast’s most desirable feature is the fact it fires in semi-automatic fashion. So, in other words, you’re able to unleash wave after wave of devastating blasts of energy, without having to wait for that pesky charge time per shot. Even after receiving a bit of a downgrade with recent updates, the Vex Mythoclast is still one of the quintessential Exotics available to Destiny players.
Suros Regime
Auto-rifles are the bread-and-butter for any shooter, and Destiny is no exception. However, if you’re looking for some that’s going to kick butt in both PvE and PvP, then the Exotic Surgos Regime is unequivocally the best choice. Not only does it support great fire power and a decent clip size, but it’s an extremely adaptable weapon, able to dish out punishment to anything you come across, be it Fallen or human adversary. There’s also some nice perks to it, such as getting a damage boost when firing from the hip for those who love spraying ammo everywhere.
