Destiny: The Taken King – how to obtain the new Exotic Scout Rifle, Touch of Malice

One of the juiciest new weapons to be included in Destiny: The Taken King is the new Exotic Scout Rifle, Touch of Malice.

The quest to obtain the rifle is pretty arduous, so be prepared to invest some time into your efforts. It’s worth it though, as Touch of Malice has some rather fantastic perks, as detailed below.

So, you fancy getting your hands on Touch of Malice? Of course you do. See below for a full writeup on how to do so.

1) Your quest first begins with the ‘Shattered Past’ mission, which you obtain from Eris back in the Tower. To complete this, you must find five Calcified Fragments, which can be located inside the Dreadnaught. However, grabbing 15 will unlock the mission ‘Hunger Pangs,’ which tasks you with eliminating a Taken Centurion in The Salt Mines of Bunker War-4.

2) Enter the Raid, but exit just before you fight the first boss. Return to Eris and pick up the quest ‘The Old Hunger,’ which requires you to obtain three special items. These are all acquired in the raid as guaranteed drops: Blade of Famine (dropped from War Priests), Shroud of Anuk (dropped from Death Singers) and The Ravenous Heart (dropped from Oryx).

3) Hand these items back to Eris. You will then be tasked with collecting 25 Wormspore, 50 Hadium Flakes and 50 Weapon Parts. With the exception of Weapon Parts, which can easily be found by dismantling unwanted weapons, the other two items can be found on the Dreadnaught. Hand these in once you have got them all.

4) Collect 30 Calcified Fragments, which will let you continue with the ‘Hunger Pangs’ questline. This requires you to venture into the Undying Mind Strike to dispatch Morgath, who spawns during the final boss.

5) Return to Eris again and you’ll be tasked with collecting an additional 15 Calcified Fragments, bringings your total to 45. Once you have done this, you will then be given the next part of the quest, requiring you to kill Mar-Zik during the Base on Phobos mission.

6) See Eris one last time to claim your reward—the Touch of Malice! Phew, congratulations, Guardian!
