Rumours that Capcom are working on a Devil May Cry remake have started gathering pace after the voice actor behind Vergil, Daniel Southworth, has revealed that he’s recently completed work on a project that sees him playing a younger version of his iconic character.
Speaking during an appearance at Power Morphicon 2024 during the Devil May Cry 25th anniversary panel, Southworth was cagey with details for obvious reasons, but it sounds like he’s involved in a new entry in the demon-slaying franchise. The fact he mentioned a younger version of Vergil has many believing it’s a remake of a previous game, and the fact he mentions a video game rules out the upcoming Netflix anime.
If we’re talking about a younger version of Vergil, then Devil May Cry or Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening would fit the bill, particularly the latter, as that takes place before the original game and is a fan-favourite.

[…] In fact I just finished a video game… two weeks ago, actually, three or four weeks ago. They hired me to play this, uhh, character- I, I don’t want to say any titles or anything, because I’m known for my spilling the beans. But they asked me to do my voice, the way it was, way back in the 2004 or whatever, ‘Can you do the younger Vergil version?’
Capcom hasn’t announced any plans for the Devil May Cry franchise at the time of writing, with the latest game being 2019’s Devil May Cry 5.
