SuperMassive Games has announce that Directive 8020 has been pushed to the first half of 2026, having originally been scheduled to arrive later this year.
Speaking in a post on X, the developer had the following to say:
We’ve made the decision to move the launch of Directive 8020 to the first half of 2026. The reaction to the game so far has been incredible, and we believe that taking a bit more time will hep us deliver the very best experience for you all. Everyone at Supermassive is deeply grateful for your patience and ongoing support. We can’t wait for you to board the Cassiopeia.

Masterminded by the same team that worked on Until Dawn and The Quarry, Directive 8020 takes the form of a sci-fi cinematic horror outing that marries survival-focussed gameplay and meaningful choices and branching pathways. Directive 8020 opens as Earth is in a dying state, with humanity seeking solace 12 light years away on the planet of Tau Ceti f, where the colony ship Cassiopeia crashes. While its crew survive, they soon realise they’re not alone, and are quickly and ruthlessly hunted by an alien organism capable of mimicking its prey.
Originally teased in the post-credits of The Dark Pictures: The Devil In Me, Directive 8020 was initially positioned as the season two premiere of the second season of The Dark Pictures Anthology, although SuperMassive Games recently revealed it is distancing itself from the season format, making Directive 8020 standout on its own from the rest of the anthology.
