DiRT 3 details surface

The latest issue of EDGE magazine has served up a heap of fresh DiRT 3 info for your consumption, including, among other things, that the rally sequel will feature "snow and ice, dynamic weather, YouTube uploads, fierce rides and epic tracks, splitscreen support, party modes, an open-world playground and more real-life sponsors and stars than ever."

The publication quotes chief game designer Matt Horsman as saying DiRT 3 "is the biggest rally game ever made". Apparently, the new career mode has gamers starting off as a "privateer" driving various 90s cars, and places emphasis on working and racing as a team. Players can expect a nice mix of modern and classic motors, with a couple of golden oldies such as the Morris Cooper thrown in for good measure.

Elsewhere, 100 routes have been touted, ranging from Norway, Aspen and Monte Carlo all the way to the dusty plains of Africa. Replay’s can be trimmed down and uploaded to YouTube, while a combo system will analyse how close your car is to obstacles before putting together your overall score. Furthermore, DiRT 2’s festival-themed menus have been canned in favour of a "more stylised" effort.

In terms of party modes, expect the likes of Transporter, Goldrush, Outbreak and Cat ‘n’ Mouse to put in an appearance.
