Landon Donovan was the star of the US soccer team (we know, football everywhere else), so it comes as little surprise that EA Sports has chosen him to grace the cover of FIFA Soccer 11. If you are an American fan (like this writer for PSU – sorry PSU UK team), you can probably pinpoint exactly where you were when Donovan scored that winning goal in injury time against Algeria.
Donovan joins Real Madrid’s Kaka and Arsenal’s Carlos Vela on the cover of FIFA Soccer 11 in the US and Canada. This is the third time he’s appeared on the cover. He was first featured in FIFA Soccer 2003 and FIFA Soccer 07.
Donovan scored three goals in four matches at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, and was named the 2009 Major League Soccer’s Most Valuable Player along with the MLS Goal of the Year 2009 while playing for the Galaxy.
“Landon is the most recognizable, popular and accomplished soccer player in the United States and he was at his best with the world watching during the 2010 FIFA World Cup™,” said Matt Bilbey, Vice President of Soccer, EA SPORTS. “After his FIFA World Cup™ performance and the season he had with the Galaxy last year we felt he belonged back on the cover of FIFA Soccer 11.”
The game will be available on Sept. 28.
