Dont Nod’s Michel Koch On Life Is Strange: Double Exposure Criticism: ‘Nothing Justifies Hating On People’

Dont Nod Entertainment’s creative director, Michel Koch, has responded to ongoing criticism surrounding Life Is Strange: Double Exposure, although has admitted that he probably wouldn’t have gone down the same path that developer Deck Nine Games has with the franchise he helped create.

Writing on X, Koch said that while he has yet to play Double Exposure and isn’t aware where the story is heading, there’s no excuse for outright hating on people. He also responded to someone who suggested that Deck Nine has “butchered the characters you and your colleagues created,” stating that “I think we would have not written things the same way.”

I didn’t play the game yet, and I have no idea where they are taking the story. But what I know is that nothing justifies hating on people for how they wrote their game! You can be disappointed, you can want other narratives for those characters you love, or different stories… but ultimately creation is hard and very subjective and if [Double Exposure’s] story does not please you, it does not erase what you imagined.

This isn’t the first time that Koch has touched on Double Exposure, as back in August he admitted to being ‘curious’ as to where Deck Nine Games would take the series with its latest effort.

Life is Strange Double Exposure takes place ten years after the events of the original Life is Strange, and sees Max Caulfield now relocated to Lakeport, Vermont, where she works as a photographer at the Caledon University. While she has vowed not to use her time-manipulating abilities again after the events in Arcadia Bay, Max uncovers new abilities that allow her to travel between two timelines, and must do so in order to solve the mystery behind the murder of her best friend.
