During QuakeCon 08 this week, id Software’s John Carmack revealed that the next DOOM title will look better than id’s other upcoming title, Rage.
"The next DOOM game will look like it’s built on another engine, as it uses three times the horsepower," said Carmack.
The game is built on an upgraded version of the Tech 5 engine, which supposedly provides astounding visual quality. However, the enhanced graphics will come at a performance cost; Carmack stated that Rage will run at a solid 60 frames per second, while the next DOOM title will only run at 30 frames per second.
So far, DOOM 4 (unofficial title) has only been officially announced for PC. Since the game is built on the multiplatform Tech 5 engine though, we can assume the game will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well.
