Dragon Quest Heroes 3 teased by series director

Dragon Quest is one of the most popular RPG franchises in Japan, and that was clearly evidenced when both Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest Heroes II topped the sales charts for several consecutive weeks following their respective releases. It would seem likely, then, that a third iteration of the hack-’n-slash series would be on its way in the future.

Dragon Quest Heroes II was one of several PlayStation 4 titles that was awarded the Gold Prize during the 2016 PlayStation Awards, which gives recognition to games based on sales. The Gold Prize is awarded to those titles which reach 500,000 sales throughout Japan and Asia.

Following the ceremony, Koei Tecmo Games director Tomohiko Sho may have let slip the existence of the series’ threequel during an interview, only to be scolded by Square Enix producer, Ryota Aomi.

Sho: “I think we were able to get this result by having fun making the game, including development. From here on as well… I accidentally said “from here on” but… well… it’s best if I didn’t say. ”
Aomi: “What, I’m going to make you stop saying such meaningful things!”

The Dragon Quest series has never been as popular here in the west as in Japan. Even still, fans can hold out hope for the potential Dragon Quest Heroes III to make its way across the pond, as it was announced just last week that Dragon Quest Heroes II is being localized, with a PS4 release for North America and Europe slated for late April.
