The chaps at Gearbox have finally pinned down a solid release date for the hotly anticipated Duke Nukem Forever, confirming the perpetually delayed shooter will rock up on U.S. shelves on May 3.
News comes in wake of a Twitter tease by Gearbox big cheese Randy Pitchford last night, which was followed up by a formal announcement over on Game Informer’s website today.
“The moment fans all over the world have been waiting for is almost here,” boomed 2K’s Christoph Hartmann. “May 3, 2011 marks Duke’s return as he unleashes his brash and brutally honest wit on the world. His return is going to be epic and one that will make video gaming history!”
Duke Nukem Forever has the distinction of being lumbered in development hell for the past 13 years, having first been announced way back in 1997. After having gone missing and presumed dead, the bubblegum-chewing badass finally reared his head last September at PAX, where it was revealed Gearbox had taken full control over the venerable IP.
The game will release on PS3, PC and 360 platforms.
