A number of Koei Tecmo developers including Tomohiko Sho, Mitsuhiro Ohshima, Kazutoshi Sekiguchi, and Masatomo Ohba have revealed during an interview with 4Gamer that Dynasty Warriors Origins only came about after a new numbered entry in the venerable hack-‘n-slash franchise was cancelled.
Ohba-san revealed that Dynasty Warriors 10 was in the pipeline originally and would have followed on from the foundation of Dynasty Warriors 7 in terms of palyable generals and other features. Following that, Sho-san confirmed the game was indeed cancelled.
Before Origins, Ohshima and I were working on a so-called ‘phantom numbered title’ with a different concept. The title at that time was an expansion of the direction of ‘Dynasty Warriors 7′ with a stage clear system and many playable generals.
