In what’s sure to be a dig at Activision’s Call Of Duty Elite service, DICE has confirmed that Battlefield 3 will be free from subscription costs when it launches in October.
While Activision’s premium Call Of Duty Elite service consists of micro-transactions and subscription fees, Battlefield 3 will feature similar social networking tools and community stats, but will be entirely free of charge.
DICE showcased some stunning new gameplay footage for Battlefield 3 at EA’s press conference, stating that the new Frostbite 2 game engine is “next-gen technology for current gen platforms.” The battle is well and truly on between the two big first-person shooters of the year – this is going to get very interesting.
