E3 2014: PS4, PS3 and Vita free-to-play games impress

Sony Computer Entertainment has revealed a comprehensive catalogue of free-to-play titles at this year’s E3 Expo.

There’s the strategy-based title Guns Up! which features cross-play between PS4, PS3 and Vita. Developed by fledgling studio Valkyrie Entertainment, gameplay involves resource management and the destruction of enemy bases and the conquering of territories.

Next up, there’s Fat Princess: Piece of Cake, a match-3 puzzle game for Vita which launches this summer. In the game, players will be able to choose from four classes as they collect gems, upgrade troops and unleash attacks on enemies in a bid to save the kingdom. Sony is also throwing in a free download code for the original Fat Princess on PS3 when players hit level 15.

BigFest was also showcased, a game where players aim to build the ultimate music festival. It’s a unique concept where players seek out real-world music talent by helping unsigned artists climb the charts while building the best show to compete against their friends. They’ll also be the optjon to sabotage friends’ gigs.

You’ve got PAIN, a physics-based game that obviously takes some inspiration from the Angry Birds phenomenon with players launch characters from a powerful slingshot to cause environmental destruction.

Among the third-party free-to-play titles are Kingdom Under Fire II, an action RTS with massive battlefields. Reaper, an action platformer. Onigiri, an MMO based around Japanese myths and fables and Loadout, a PS4 exclusive multiplayer shooter with extensive customisation options.
