Nolan North, the voice actor behind Uncharted hero Nathan Drake, has said that the next chapter in the celebrated action-adventure franchise is likely to be the final game in the series.
Speaking to IGN at E3 this week, North, who has voiced cheeky chappie Drake since the series’ inception in 2007, feels that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be Naughty Dog’s series curtain call.
"It’s bittersweet but at a certain point you want to go out on top," said North. "If this is the last one indeed, and I believe it’s the last one – nothing’s confirmed, but I believe it’s the last one Naughty Dog wants to do, in which case I hope somebody else doesn’t pick up the mantle because they’ve done it so well for so long – but yeah, it’s one of those things where you just have to cross that bridge when you get to it.
"I like the idea of going out on top so we better do a hell of a job with this one… and it’s already looking pretty good."
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was teased at the climax of Sony’s E3 press briefing earlier this week, by way of a visually-stunning trailer that made use of in-game assets captured directly from a PlayStation 4.
Though brief, the trailer confirmed that Drake’s next adventure will arrive in 2015. Naughty Dog later divulged a few story details on the game, confirming it’ll involve a pirate treasure and take gamers on a globe-trotting adventure.
