E3 2015 is over for another year, and what a show it’s been. As we pack our bags and head back home we’re left with a tough decision: which games deserve our coveted awards this year?
Winner – Need for Speed (2015)
Need for Speed is easily shaping up to be the best game in the series. What really stands out about this latest iteration is the level of player choice. Electronic Arts and Ghost Games takes everything they’ve learned from previous games and lets you decide how you want to race. It captures the high-speed thrills of Hot Pursuit as well as the more measured sim-like approach of Need for Speed Shift with a level of customisation that allows you to tweak your ride to fit your own driving style. It’s a major evolution for the series which isn’t going to isolate any kind of racing fan.
Customisation is in-depth yet intuitive and -thanks to a super smooth interface – it’s clear players will enjoy spending hours locked away in the garage creating their perfect rides. The Frostbite engine is at its peak too with beautiful looking cars and a stunning vision of Ventura Bay, but it’s the smooth handling of the cars – and the abiltiy to switch between Drift and Grip modes – that really shines and takes the Need for Speed franchise to a whole new level. Racing has never felt this exhilarating.
