E3 2016 Awards: Best PlayStation Fighting Game

Well, that’s all folks. E3 2016 has wrapped, bringing the curtains down on yet another game-filled extravaganza in sun-baked Los Angeles. Of course, the fun’s not over just yet; we’ve still got to slap awards on the titles that impressed us the most, which is no easy task considering the pedigree of games on offer.

Winner: Tekken 7

While the Tekken franchise may have descended into an incomprehensible maelstrom of boxing kangaroos, pet pandas, and old men who survive being blown to kingdom come, the gameplay has remained unequivocally strong. Fortunately, that’s the same case with this latest installment in the venerable fighting series, Tekken 7, which seeks to spice things up once again with some new mechanics.

With an all-star cast of characters featuring some intriguing new additions, Tekken 7 also aims to reinvent its combo system with the addition of the Tail Spin attack, allowing you to continue juggles as your opponent hits the deck. In addition, it’s also added Rage Arts, which can quickly change the tide of battle if you find yourself in a bit of a pickle. Oh, and it also looks absolutely gorgeous to boot.

Tekken’s over 20 years-old now, but this latest entry in the franchise is shaping up to be the best yet. Look out for Tekken 7 on PlayStation 4 in early 2017.
