As the COVID-19 Pandemic is still ravaging the world and stopping any chance of in-person events a new report from VGC claims that the E3 2021 will take place this year, but that is will be all digital.
Pitch documents sent to VGC, which were meant for publishers, outline the goals for this year’s event, which would consist of three days of livestreams, running from June 15 to June 17. The goal of the ESA will be to hold multiple two-hour keynote sessions and an awards show, with a June 14 preview night featuring other smaller streamers, game publishers, and indie titles.
Media previews would arrive a week before, with demos available to the public, likely on platforms like Steam and the PlayStation Network. Those who partner with the ESA will also be able to stream game demos to media via meetings, with assistance from developers, which is something many publishers have already done and we have experienced at preview events. But, this new plan will require the support of the ESA’s membership which is made up of the largest game companies.
Whilst all of this is rumor right now, the official E3 Twitter account did say that they have been hard at work on this year’s show and that more news will arrive soon. What are your thoughts on E3’s plans and whether it should go ahead this year?
