EA announces fifth FIFA World Cup

Electronic Arts will be holding yet another FIFA World Cup tournament late next month to promote the upcoming FIFA 09, due out on October 2 in Australia, October 3 in Europe and October 14 in North America. Thanks to Eurogamer for the tip-off.

The overall winner will go home with USD 20,000 (GBP 10,000) and a car, while the second place contestant has to make do with USD 5000 (GBP 2500), and third nets a paltry USD 1000 (GBP 500). Small change, that.

Among other improvements (of which there are 250 in total, we’re told), FIFA 09 will hit the turf with 10 versus 10 online multiplayer, a tuned-up collision detection system and a subscription-based Live Season feature which alters your players’ attributes to match the real-life ups and downs of certain teams.

The demo is now available on PSN, so be sure to get a few kickabouts in before the real deal ships.
