EA exec is hopeful Sony can ‘figure it out’

Glen Schofield, general manager at EA Redwood Shores, has said he is hopeful that Sony can figure out the best course of action to take in regards to the PlayStation 3’s price tag in light of the on-going economic slump.

Consumers and analysts alike have called for a price cut for the machine as the Japanese hardware manufacturer faces increased competition from Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and substantial losses in its computer entertainment division.

"I’m really not sure what’s going on with Sony,” Schofield told GI.biz. "They’ve been such a great, great partner and PlayStation 2 being such a great machine that, God, I hope they get out of this and they figure it out and they’re around for a long time."

Despite this, Schofield doesn’t outright call for a price drop, stating, "You know, I can’t tell them what to do. I don’t know their finances,” though admits it would be beneficial for the industry as a whole to have three successful consoles on the market.

"I love having the three major machines like that,” he concluded.
