With Star Wars Battlefront now well and truly in the can and in hands of millions across the globe, developer DICE has confirmed that development has entered full swing on the next Battlefield title, with just a small team left behind to maintain Battlefront and develop DLC for the game throughout 2016.
This confirmation comes from Dan Vaderlind, development director at DICE, via a tweet he made earlier yesterday:
Now that we’ve shipped Battlefront and a part of the team continues to work on it, I am moving on to another project, the next Battlefield..

This news of course lines up quite nicely from an earlier announcement during EA’s Summer earnings call, where CFO Blake Jorgensen confirmed that a new Battlefield title was in the works.
Criticized for its lack of depth when compared to other shooters, and most notably its Battlefield lineage, Star Wars Battlefront was targeted at a more casual shooter audience rather than the FPS stalwarts who normally flock to the more in-depth gameplay that Battlefront’s stablemate usually provides.
Naturally, we’ll have more for you on Battlefield 5, or whatever it ends up being called, as soon we get it. In the meantime though, EA and DICE have recently released ‘The Battle of Jakku’ DLC for the PS4 version of Star Wars Battlefront ahead of the release of the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie, which opens later this month.
