Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter has stated that Byron Beede, General Manager for the Battlefield franchise, has informed him that Electronic Arts wants to annualise the series in the near future.
Beede apparently told Pachter that EA’s goal is to have three main studios working on the Battlefield franchise across a three-year development cycle, allowing for yearly releases. Pachter added that this won’t happen for another five or six years, but it all sounds very similar to what Call of Duty has been doing, as that franchise rotates between Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Treyarch each year.
“Their goal is three studios making Battlefield on a three-year basis,” said Pachter, adding “he [Bedee] said it’s going to take five or six years before we get two-in-a-row. So we’re not going to get there for a while.”

Nothing official has been confirmed at this point, so for the time being just file this under rumour. Still, annualising the Battlefield franchise would be a major shakeup; fans are likely to have some very strong opinions about this.
The first Open Beta Weekend for Battlefield 6 took place earlier this month, and EA revealed soon after that this was the series’ biggest beta to date. Elsewhere, the former head of Blizzard, Mike Ybarra, has said he believes EA’s upcoming shooter will ‘boot stomp‘ Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, resulting in Activision having to improve its own franchise leading to a better FPS experience overall.
Despite this, a report claimed that while Activision is keeping an eye on its rival, it feels Call of Duty is simply too big to fail. Battlefield 6 is due out on October 10, 2025 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
