Matt Hazard, once a staple video game hero, fell prey to low-budget games like Haz-Matt Carts and Choking Hazard: Candy Gramm. Now, it has just been announced that Matt Hazard will star in a risky comeback attempt — Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard.
Haven’t ever heard of the illustrious Matt Hazard? Don’t be perplexed; Matt’s downfall and subsequent return is merely the premise behind Vicious Cycle Software’s Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard. Developed by Vicious Cycle Software and published by D3Publisher, Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard is touted as "a third-person shooter with a sense of humor."
Eat Lead will offer a satirical take on the shooters of late, as crafted by Dead Head Fred writer David Ellis. As long as the gameplay — which features a cover system called "point and cover" — is up to par, this should satisfy the current dearth of (intentionally) funny games in the current generation.
"Eat Lead parodies some of our fondest memories in classic gaming and pop culture, so gamers will have a laugh out loud experience everytime they pick-up the controller," said Pete Andrew, vice president of product development at D3P. "With an original storyline, Eat Lead perfectly blends action and humor with rock solid gameplay for an experience like no other."
Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard is anticipated for release on PS3 and Xbox 360 in Q1 2009. To occupy your time until then, check out this "unofficially official guide to the world’s greatest game hero ever created."
