ESRB condemns ‘civilian casualties’ in Battlefield 3, EA responds

EA has defended their upcoming first person shooter, Battlefield 3, from an onslaught by the ESRB who last week condemned the game for giving players the ability to shoot uniformed police officers.

In an statement issued by EA, the publisher said “I don’t think you understand the gravity of the situation. For God’s sake, there is a nuke in Paris! Millions of lives are at stake!!”

The statement issued by EA contradicts the comments made by Battlefield producer Patrick Bach.

“If you put the player in front of a choice where they can do good things or bad things, they will do bad things, go dark side – because people think it’s cool to be naughty, they won’t be caught,” said Back last august.

“In a game where it’s more authentic, when you have a gun in your hand and a child in front of you what would happen? Well the player would probably shoot that child.”

Battlefield 3 releases in the U.S. on Oct. 25 and Oct. 28 in Europe for PS3, PC and Xbox 360.
