Like performers at a concert throwing candy to an eager audience, Sucker Punch has again released a wave of new screen shots of inFAMOUS: Second Son. As usual, they are absolutely gorgeous. Here are just a few of them; for the rest, and all the other amazing screenshots PSU has collected, click here to check out the game’s gallery.

Lighting is not always the easiest thing to get right, but Sucker Punch seems to have spared no expense to make its version of Seattle look incredible. The lovely reflection of the evening sun on this damp street, with even the shadows of the trees in their proper places, is just one of the major things that has been impressing gamers.

Character models and animation can also prove difficult, and are often the biggest graphical downside to great-looking games. The characters in inFAMOUS: Second Son, however, look quite impressive. The expressions on their faces, the way their mouths move in correlation with what they are saying, and their gestures are all brilliant—not always exactly the way they would be in real life (Delsin’s smirk can seem a little stiff here and there), but they’re among the best to be released in a game so far.

inFAMOUS has always revolved around a city. In the first game, it was Emperor City, followed by New Marais in the second—two fictional cities. With the new consoles, both Sucker Punch and Ubisoft have strived to recreate real cities. Both Ubisoft’s Chicago and Sucker Punch’s Seattle look great. This screenshot, however, shows just how perfect a city Seattle is for inFAMOUS. Of course, many cities in the United States would be perfect for the job, with their tall buildings to scale and trains positioned over roads (Chicago is another), and inFAMOUS 2 did venture into more open, marshy terrain. Even so, Sucker Punch has made the perfect inFAMOUS playground out of its home city.

The only thing here that stands out in inFAMOUS: Second Son’s graphics is the foliage. Foliage is quite difficult to deal with, as there are many different kinds, and each individual plant is unique and requires a high level of detail. This is some of the best looking foliage in the video game industry, but there are some instances, especially in certain lighting situations, where the foliage says, “I may look awesome, and this world may look pretty real to you, but this is still a video game.” The first screenshot is an example; the textures of the leaves look rather soft next to the crystal clarity of the buildings and archway. Sucker Punch has not quite hit the mark for true-to-life foliage with inFAMOUS: Second Son, but it has come pretty darn close.

Gamers should not be bothered by little nitpicks like that, however. Much of the time (like in this last screenshot), the foliage looks terrific, and every screenshot Sucker Punch releases stokes the anticipation of gamers everywhere—and there is indeed anticipation. inFAMOUS: Second Son has been winning “Most Anticipated” awards all over the Internet, thanks in part to the fact that Sucker Punch is releasing plenty of positively gorgeous screenshots. Meanwhile, gamers still await another 15 second video of the very pretty Driveclub from Evolution Studios—but Sucker Punch can afford to release more previews and screenshots now, keeping the hype going for inFAMOUS: Second Son’s March 21 release.
