Teruyuki Toriyama, who previously worked on producer at Sony Japan Studio on projects including Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne, has co-founded a new development outfit in Tokyo known as Sirius Studio.
The new company is a subsidiary of Gz Group, and is focussed on developing games for PC and console. Tomohiro Suzuki is serving as president of Sirius Studio and will be joined by Hideki Irie (executive Vice President/executive producer), and of course the aforementioned Toriyama-san.
After departing SIE Japan Studio in 2020, Toriyama joined Thirdverse alongside Irie-san and producer Hikaru Okamura, but opted to leave after that company shifted its focus towards more casual gaming experiences. Here’s what Irie had to say during a chat with Famitsu:
We were part of a team that produced high-end games at the Japan studio of a company called Thirdverse. However, Thirdverse decided to shift its business to the production of casual games. Since we were a team that came together to produce high-end games, we wanted to make high-end games in the future, so we consulted directly with the chairman of Thirdverse and decided to make an amicable transfer.

Sirius Studio is aiming to “create games that make users’ hearts shine,” and is targeting “planning, development and sales of digital games for consoles and PC.”
According to former Sony indie boss Shuhei Yoshida, the format holder shuttered its Japan Studio as it wasn’t interested in pursuing the development of AA video games.
