A demo of F1 25 running with full Path Tracing was showcased at GDC by Electronic Arts, with the game running on PS5 Pro at 30 FPS/1080p upscaled to 4K using PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).
Digital Foundry have covered the demo in their latest episode, which is now available on their Patreon. According to the report, the standard path tracing runs at 20 FPS on PS5 Pro, but EA revealed that they are using some proprietary path tracing technology known as as ‘EA SEED ORCA’ to reach 30 FPS and 4K PSSR on Sony’s high-end console. In addition, DF stated that an even better performance could be possible if the base resolution is dropped lower and the gap made up with PSSR.
There’s no official confirmation yet on whether this will be added to F1 25 with a new update, as it was more to showcase was is possible rather than tease an upcoming feature.
Sony recently launched an upgraded version of PSSR, and a number of games have already taken advantage of the tech. You can see a complete list of PSSR games for PS5 Pro here.
