Bethesda’s Pete Hines has moved to defend the decision to increase the price of Fallout 4’s Season Pass in wake of its post-launch content plans for the critically acclaimed RPG sequel.
The publisher revealed earlier this week that three DLC packs will kick off its continued support for Fallout 4, beginning with Automatron in March 2016 and continuing with two more releases in April and May.
However, the studio also confirmed the controversial decision to bump up the price of the Season Pass from £24.99 to £39.99, which didn’t sit too well with gamers. As such, Hines took to Twitter to defend the decision and explain more about what it has in store for the game.
“We are making more [content] than we planned, and we aren’t going to continue to give away $60 or more worth of DLC for $30,” said Hines. “If you already have the Season Pass, you get everything [for no increased cost]. If you don’t, you have weeks to get it for $30.”
“The additional DLC after these three will be what brings the total to at least $60,” he continued, speaking in regards to the unannounced DLC that has resulted in the price hike. “You’re free to buy the DLC individually if you don’t like the Season Pass price.”
Fallout 4 was released on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One back in fall 2015, and proved an immediate hit with critics and gamers alike, shipping 12 million copies at launch and going on to sell over five million copies worldwide in its first week alone.
