Japanese gaming bible Famitsu’s got the skinny on Tales of Xillia’s fourth playable character, Leia Roland.
According to the publication (translated by the chaps at Andriasang), 15-year old Roland is a childhood chum of main protagonist Jude, and works in the family inn. Apparently, she’s also training to be a nurse during her spare time.
Roland doesn’t pop up until Jude, Milla and Alvin leave the capital city with the army hot on their heels, where the trio bump into her while she’s training with Jude’s parents.
In terms of weapons, Roland tends to favour a club to clobber her foes with during battles, with players able to upgrade its reach as Roland’s own skills increase.
Elsewhere, the magazine also lifts the lid on the game’s Link Arts system; namely, a group-based mechanic that lets your character link up to a partner. Here, your companion will aid you as you attack enemies, building up a gauge which, when charged, lets the main character unleash an Arts move. Your partner will then follow-up with their own assault, signalling a special group attack.
Tales of Xillia is pencilled in for release on PlayStation 3 in Japan in late 2011. A western release has yet to be nailed down.
