In Far Cry 3 Ubisoft has introduced a meta game in which players can work individually or with friends to boost their team with better weapons to give them an edge in battle.
Ubisoft tells us that a range of customistable weapons and attachments will be awarded to those players who have time on their hands to invest in decoding Intel.
Though Ubisoft is still sketchy on the details, it did reveal that after each multiplayer match players will have a chance to find a flash drive that contains encoded information. Players will have to decode the information, which will take time. In the example we were shown, a decoding bar was split into four separate parts, suggesting that we’ll be faced with multiple tasks in order to reap the benefits. Players will need to decode the Intel by accessing the Far Cry website on any computer or through a dedicated app.
Friends will also be able to help out decoding and share information about the Intel. Daniel Berlin, game designer at Ubisoft Massive, told us that unlocking the codes will give players access to the “most powerful items” in the game. Though Ubisoft is keeping its cards close to its chest, this may also include perks.
It’s going to pay to have friends on your side
The meta-game should come in very handy for team-orientated players and clans. Ubisoft tells us that players who unlock the codes can pass their rewards onto other people if they wish and some will be able to send "Speed Up" tokens via the Far Cry 3 website to help others progress through the meta-game more quickly.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this all pans out. Though we like the idea of customised weapons that we’ve had to work hard to gain, our only concern is that those players who have the time on their hands to play the meta-game will simply over-power those who haven’t. It will be interesting to see how Ubisoft balances this out.
We’ll just have to wait and see when Far Cry launches in early September.
Stay tuned for more Far Cry 3 news throughout the day.
