Far Cry 3 multiplayer lit up with new Firestorm mode

At a Far Cry 3 event in London this week, Ubisoft showcased a dynamic new game mode for the Far Cry series called ‘Firestorm’ which looks set to deliver a brand new experience to the first-person shooter.

In Firestorm, each team has two supply depots to defend, but they also need to attack the two enemy supply depots at the other side of the map and set them on fire. When a supply depot is on fire it dynamically affects the map with the fire spreading and blocking off pathways that were previously clear. Essentially, players will be fighting inside a huge inferno once a supply depot is ignited.

It’s not as simple as just lighting up a supply depot and winning the game though. A circular timer runs down once you’ve ignited a depot. If the timer runs out the fire dwindles and the other team has to try and ignite it again. So, the challenge here is trying to ignite both depots before the first timer runs out and get them burning simultaneously.

Once both enemy depots are burning at the same time, a radio point appears in the centre of the map giving players a window of opportunity to capture it before the other team. If the team that has ignited both enemy supply depots on fire captures it first, a plane flies overhead and soaks the jungle with gasoline causing a huge explosion and ending the round. If, on the other hand, the victims get to the radio point a plane flies over and douses out the fire with petrol.

A trail of smoke can soon turn into a blazing inferno

Firestorm is an exciting, frantic game of attack and defence that culminates in a heart-racing push to get to the radio tower first. The fact that the whole place is going up in flames just serves to add to that excitement. It’s going to be interesting to see whether map design can live up to the actual game mode. If so, we think gamers are going to absolutely love Firestorm.
