Ubisoft has offered clarification on how the cooperative mode in Far Cry 5 will function, confirming the mode will be online-only.
Speaking in a statement to Polygon, the French publishing giant revealed that you’ll only be able to team up with a buddy in the upcoming open-world adventure game if you’re connected online; old-fashioned offline co-op will not be supported, sadly.
Far Cry 5 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on February 28, 2018. The game is a collaborative effort between Ubisoft’s Montreal, Toronto, Kiev, Shanghai, and Reflections studios, with the sequel running on a modified version of the Dunia Engine. This latest chapter in the franchise takes place in Hope County, Montana, USA, which finds itself at the mercy of the fanatical Joseph Seed, leader of a militaristic doomsday cult. Players control a Sheriff’s Deputy who has been dispatched to the region to bring Seed to justice.
Once again, the game’s open-world presents ample opportunity for players to explore beyond the main questline, with numerous side missions available to dive into if you wish. Players will gain access to a number of weapons as per the norm, although this time you can also take the fight to the skies and take part in dogfights with enemies. Furthermore, the main protagonist can now be fully customised by the player to further personalise each individual’s experience.
