Far Cry Primal on PS4 gets official box art, shows hero facing a giant mammoth

Ubisoft has today unveiled the official packaging art for the PlayStation 4 version of Far Cry Primal, the next chapter in its critically acclaimed series of open-world adventure games and the first to take place during a prehistoric setting.

Check it out below.

Far Cry Primal is scheduled for release on PS4 and Xbox One in 23, February 2016, with a PC version arriving in March. The game is set in the Stone Age and focuses on the exploits of a seasoned hunter named Takkar, who finds himself stranded in a hostile environment known as Oros. Stripped of his weapons and equipment after an ambush ripped apart his tribe, Takkar must fight for survival and rise through the ranks to once again resume leadership of a tribe.

The game is currently in development by Ubisoft Montreal, with the company’s Toronto, Kiev, and Shanghai studios also helping out with the project. Given that Primal is set in 10,000 BC, gamers can expect to come across a variety of wildlife, such as mammoths, dire wolves, saber-toothed cats, bears, and other pugnacious creatures that pose immediate threat to Takkar. Unlike modern action-adventure games, Far Cry Primal will require players to craft their own weapons rather than purchase them, allowing you to wield primitive tools such as spears, arrows, and clubs to fend off enemies. The game will also include a full day-night cycle, which will have a dynamic affect on gameplay, such as creatures becoming more aggressive after sun down.

Ubisoft earlier this year quizzed Far Cry fans on what setting they would like to see future instalments take, which included Peru, Alaska, as well as themes covering zombies, modern warfare, vampires, dinosaurs, and a post-apocalyptic world.

Are you looking forward to Far Cry Primal? Do you feel this is the right direction for the franchise, or would you have prefered a more contemporary setting? Sound off in the comments section below.
