Far Cry Primal won’t have co-op, and here’s why

Far Cry Primal will eschew the series’ traditional co-op features in order for the developer to focus on providing the best single-player experience possible, Ubisoft has said.

While both Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4 included co-op functionality to allow gamers to team up and tackle missions together, Ubisoft has instead opted to remove the feature for the latest entry in the multi-million selling open-world franchise—but insists it was the best decision for the game.

"We are focusing entirely on creating the best possible Far Cry experience for our fans," Ubisoft’s community manager, Jason Paradise, posted on the Steam community page. "Bringing the Stone Age to life and providing players with a strong gameplay experience based off of the Far Cry legacy meant we had to reinvent our core gameplay loop.

"This was definitely not a small undertaking. Our focus was on delivering this fantasy which required clear priorities for the team. Therefore, in the early stages of the project, we made the difficult choice of focusing our efforts on the single player experience."

Far Cry Primal is scheduled to ship for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 23, 2016, with a PC version landing in early March. The game takes place in the Stone Age, with players assuming control of a tribal warrior named Takkar, who must survive in a hostile world inhabited by rival tribes and vicious creatures, including sabre-tooth tigers, wolves, and grizzly bears.

Players will be able to craft and wield an assortment of primitive weapons including clubs, axes, longbows, and other such tools to defend themselves as they explore the majestic yet deadly land of Oros. According to Ubisoft, the game world will be roughly the same size as the one seen in Far Cry 4.

Far Cry Primal will be receiving a Deluxe Edition when it hits stores next month, which includes a range of physical and digital content.
