Fast Travel Games, the publisher and developer that PS VR2 players might recognize as the publisher/port house of Into the Radius which launched last year, have announced layoffs that will impact 30 members of the studio’s staff.
Revealed with a post on the studio’s LinkedIn page, a statement from the company does note that these layoffs will mainly impact its publishing, admin and marketing teams, though it also notes that part of this restructuring means consolidating its internal development teams down to just one core team.
As to why the layoff is happening, Fast Travel Games pins the reasoning on sales from the publishers six releases in 2024 selling less than the company expected.
“Due to lower sales than expected from our six game launches in 2024, in combination with a more uncertain year ahead for VR games as a whole, we’ve taken the difficult decision to make 30 employees redundant at FTG,” the studio began in its statement.
“These changes will affect mainly our Publishing, Marketing, and Admin departments, although the Studio will also be impacted as we consolidate down to one development team.
This is an exceptionally difficult decision, but we believe it’s necessary to ensure a stable and sustainable future for the company. Our focus is on supporting all Fast Travellers through this challenging time. We’re grateful for the invaluable contributions of those leaving and remain committed to continue launching incredible games for our players.”
