The latest NPD data for February 2009 has hit PSU towers this morning, revealing that Sony’s PlayStation 3 console sold through approximately 276,000 units last month, topping analyst predictions in the process.
Despite not managing to outpace the Xbox 360 – which shifted 391,000 units during the same period – NPD’s Anita Frazier noted that Sony’s console experienced the most significant month-over-month increase in units out of any other platform.
In related news, PlayStation 2 sold through 131,000 units, with PlayStation Portable narrowly missing out on the 200,000 sales mark. Unsurprisingly, Wii trumped the whole lot, shifting 753,000 units.
Given that Killzone 2 released on the tail end of last month, we expect March NPD figures to reflect a stronger uptake of Sony’s black behemoth.
