Electronic Arts is feeling decidedly chuffed with itself this week, following news that the publisher’s hit title FIFA 09 has passed the one million sales mark in the UK after just five weeks.
The venerable soccer franchise has now notched up ten million sales in the region over the last five years, with FIFA 09 enjoying the highest metacritic score of any title in the series, averaging 88 per cent across PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
In addition, the company’s Be The One event has also proved a roaring success, with over 60,000 punters turning up for the London-based showcase.
EA Sports Marketing Manager, Dan Holman, commented: “We are delighted with the success of FIFA 09.”
“We have continued to listen to gamers and football fans and the result has been the fastest-selling FIFA game in franchise history. To sell in excess of one million copies in five weeks, beating our previous best by one month is incredible and the development team at EA Canada deserves a lot of credit for delivering the best football game ever.”
