Final Fantasy 15 framerate drops following PS4 Pro update

Square Enix’s recent Final Fantasy 15 update 1.05 hasn’t gotten off to the best of starts, with DigitalFoundry reporting the patch, which is meant to install a silky-smooth 60fps for PS4 Pro users, is resulting in some unstable frame rates across the board.

According to the report, the update results in an unlocked frame rate that frequently clocks in at 30-50fps, while the pacing issue that was apparent in the regular version and its PS4 Pro counterpart prior to the update is still rearing its ugly head, even more so in wake of yesterday’s update.

Unsurprisingly, DigitalFoundry finds the PS4 Pro version of Final Fantasy 15 as the least desirable platform to experience the critically acclaimed JRPG on, at least until Square Enix offers a remedy for the problems (we can only hope).

Final Fantasy 15 was released in November 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One after a long and arduous production cycle, having originally been announced for the PS3 under the title of Final Fantasy Versus 13. However, Square Enix later decided to scrap the project when it was around 25 percent complete, and revamp it for modern consoles under a new title. Many elements were shelved as a result, including the character of Stella, although some themes and locations remained in the final game.

The game received positive reviews from critics and has shipped over six million copies worldwide as of January 2017. Square Enix recently explained why the game took a more linear pathway during the game’s latter stages.
