Final Fantasy 7 PS4 port Trophies leak, release date probably not far away

Trophies for the upcoming PlayStation 4 port of Final Fantasy VII have leaked online, suggesting the classic RPG will be making its way to Sony’s current-generation console very soon. Don’t get confused with the full-fledged remake; this is the port of the PC version, which Sony announced back at the PlayStation Experience 2014.

As such, it probably won’t come as much of a surprise to hear that the Trophy list is quite similar to list of achievements available on the Steam version of the 1997 PSOne hit, as Square Enix is behind the PS4 port of the game. While a release date hasn’t been officially confirmed as of yet, we presumably won’t have to wait too long; Trophies usually leak when a game isn’t that far off launch.

Sony will be hosting the 2015 PlayStation Experience later this week, which would make for an ideal platform on which to announce a release date for the Final Fantasy VII port. Square Enix is of course busy working on a full remake of the much-loved JRPG, which was formally announced after a decade of rumors back at E3 2015. However, the project is still in the early days of development, and as such probably won’t be out for a while yet. Nonetheless, Square Enix has said that more details on the game will be revealed this winter—could we hear something at PSX 2015?

Final Fantasy VII was released on the PSOne after originally being conceived for the Nintendo 64. The game has sold over 11 million copies worldwide since its release in 1997, making it one of the highest-selling entries in the Final Fantasy franchise to date. Final Fantasy VII received rave reviews from critics upon its release and became a fan-favorite, and even after all these years is considered one of the best video games of all time, and a key component in Sony’s market domination with original PlayStation. In addition, it is also seen as the game that broke the JRPG genre into the mainstream in the west.

Stay tuned to PSU for more details on Final Fantasy VII port and the upcoming remake as we get them.
