Square Enix has launched a Final Fantasy IX 25th Anniversary news page on its Final Fantasy portal website, fuelling speculation that the long-rumoured remake may be announce imminently. It’s also just a few days away from Nintendo’s Switch 2 blowout, suggesting a reveal could happen this week.
If you haven’t been keeping up with Final Fantasy IX chatter in the past 18 months or so, a remake has been reportedly in the works for some time now, although an official reveal has never materialised. Back in February, leaker NateTheHate claimed that both a Final Fantasy IX Remake and a revamp of Final Fantasy Tactics were still in active development, but the former isn’t expected to arrive this year.

Beyond that, website Gematsu and journalist Jeff Grubb have both corroborated rumours that a Final Fantasy IX Remake is in the pipeline. Meanwhile, Naoki Yoshida said during an interview last October that a potential remake of Final Fantasy IX would require more than one title, which is something Square Enix is currently working on with Final Fantasy VII.
Final Fantasy IX originally launched for the PlayStation back in 2000.
