Naoki Hamaguchi, game director on Final Fantasy VII Revelation, has acknowledged that fans are eager to see more characters other than Cloud, which is why the spiky-haired chap hasn’t been showing up much in the game’s marketing cycle.
Instead, Square Enix has taken the opportunity to showcase a number of other characters in FFVII Revelation, notably Cid and Vincent, who are now full-on party members. However, Hamaguchi-san noted that Cloud is still the game’s protagonist, so there’s no danger of him being sidelined.
“Cloud is still the main character,” Hamaguchi-san told GamesRadar, before noting that he’s aware fans “want to see more of the other characters too, so we very much wanted to have content that goes into each of those characters.”
Fans of the original Final Fantasy VII will no doubt recall that at one point in the story, Cloud is taken out of action temporarily and leadership passes to Tifa and Cid. I won’t go into details on that in case readers haven’t played the 1997 version, but if Revelation follows the same narrative, then we can assume Cloud will once again drop out of the spotlight for a bit.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will ship on a single Blu-ray disc as a physical release, but will require a download in order to play. Hamaguchi explained this was necessary in order not to compromise the quality of the game, and also later confirmed that Revelation will weigh in at around 200GB.
