Square Enix has hinted that it may remaster Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Final Fantasy: Lightning Returns for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Speaking during a recent interview (via GamePur), the company said that while they are keen on the idea, the development team behind the original games have since moved on—-as such, the project may require additional help from an external studio.
"At this point in time the size of the original Final Fantasy XIII team has been reduced due to developers moving around to work on Final Fantasy XV & XIV online (Realm Reborn). We need more developers to do it. Maybe it would be a good option to get help by some of the external studios in the same fashion as the remaster of Final Fantasy X/X-2,” said the firm.
Final Fantasy has seen a number of remasters lately, with Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 releasing earlier this year for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. Next up is Final Fantasy Type-0 HD in March 2015, initial copies of which will come with a demo of Final Fantasy XV.
