Final Fantasy XIV Details Patch 7.4 For December 16 – A Savage Holiday?!

With the most recent Live Letter, Square Enix has provided key details on Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.4, which will be dropping on December 16, 2025. This date was speculated by many different folk, and there was a worry about the Savage version of the raid dropping on Christmas. However, the patch with the Savage version of the raid tier will be dropping January 6, 2026. This is a big relief for many people who like to try and aim for world first, as they don’t need to have to worry about the holidays now.

Into The Mist

The patch will be titled “Into The Mist”. This patch will start the lead-up to the next expansion, though it seems we will have several more FF9 references in this patch. The dungeon shown off has a very Halloween aesthetic but seems to be based on Treno. We will also meet a new mysterious Lalafell as part of the story, while the dungeon is called Mistwake.

Continuing story updates, we also received information that the new trial that will be part of the story seems to be related to Doom Train. Though we have no name for the boss itself, the trial will be called Hell On Rails. As always, there will be a Normal and an Extreme version of the trial, with the Extreme versions dropping weapons and a chance at a mount.

It’s Your Time To fight!

The raid series will also be returning with patch 7.4; this will be the last of the Arcadion raid series that started with 7.0. This raid series pulls reference to many different wrestling-based shows, and it looks set to continue with this patch.

The images shown during the Live Letter look a lot like some sort of gladiator arena. Though the information we got is limited, the characters in the patch photo are a tease at future fights in this patch. It looks like three new characters for us to challenge. However, considering each raid tier is four floors, could the Bomber be returning again, possibly as the Underbomber? This is all speculation, though. The new raid tier will be called “Heavyweight Tier” as a reference to the weight class in wrestling, each tier has been a different weight class during this expansion. .

Removing Restrictions On Glamour

For the longest time, gear has been restricted by job, class and level requirements. But with the recent banning of certain third-party tools, the team has decided that the community really would like this restriction lifted. So with the patch, you will now be able to equip any armour type to any job, no matter the design. For example, you can now be a white mage in full paladin gear, or maybe a fisher dressed as a dragoon. One limitation, though, is that you cannot glamour the weapon of the job to a different job; this is due to animation issues with skills. But I think this is an incredible change and something the community has been asking for for a very long time.

But they also mentioned that the housing update will be delayed till 7.5 due to CPU issues; they are increasing the number of items you can use in the house, but it has been causing tonnes of headaches. I am also hoping that TARDIS housing is coming in 7.5, but there is no information currently (currently you are limited to small, medium or large housing plots, but they announced in the future you will be able to upgrade the interior to medium or large even if you own a small house, but the exterior will still be of the small house).

Get In The Crystal!

Duty Support allows players to play dungeons with Trusts. These Trusts are NPC-based teammates that allow you to take on normal group content solo. This means you do not have to worry about queue times, or you could be shy and worried about how you perform in a dungeon for the first time. With 7.4, the team is adding Aurum Vale and Dzemael Darkhold to the Duty Support system. Aurum Vale for the longest time has been known as one of the more challenging early dungeons, and Square Enix has said it will be getting a massive revamp with the patch. So if you want to experience the dungeon before the change, try to do it as soon as possible.

In addition, a new mechanic is coming to both trial and dungeon-based Duty Support content; when you die, it currently counts as a wipe. In trials you will be getting a stacked buff; this buff will be consumed when you die and means you have another chance at the fight without wiping. During dungeons, after dying, you will be given a stack; this will give you an extra life during the boss fight. It will go up if you are struggling with the boss, but once the boss has been defeated, any stacks will be removed.

It’s Time To DDDDDD. -DUEL

Dropping around the same time as 7.4 is the new ranked season of PvP; this will also bring a new series pass with rewards. Though we didn’t see the rewards for the new series pass, the team has announced that Frontlines will be getting a new map, “Worqor Chirteh.” This is a location from the current Dawntrail expansion. Beyond that, Square Enix has also mentioned that there will be rebalancing of actions and abilities with the patch drop for PvP.

There will be environmental effects that will change the battlefield with this new map, but the developers don’t want to go over the details until the next Live Letter. As sucg, we should get more information before the patch drops on the new PvP map.

So Much More

Finally, the latest patch will also be dropping with a new Unreal; a variant dungeon with new modes that the community has long requested. It’s also got more Hildabrand, more content coming to Occult Crescent and a new area for Cosmic Exploration. This is probably one of the biggest content patches we have ever had, with heaps of different levels of content for all players. The glamour change is a big one, everyone; with this restriction removed, it’s going to allow people to make their characters more unique than ever before.

Final Fantasy XIV Update 7.4 drops December 16 followed by Savage on January 6, so make sure you grind those tomes so you are ready for release day!
