Out of Tokyo Game Show, Final Fantasy XIV players now have a more detailed picture of what’s coming to the MMORPG with Patch 2.4, “Dreams of Ice.”
As the title alludes to, a new primal is coming to Eorzea. Shiva will join the likes of Ifrit, Leviathan, and Ramuh as an end-game boss in Hard and Extreme difficulties. A brief clip shows creative director Naoki Yoshida exploring Shiva’s arena, the Ahk Afah Amphitheatre. Players’ first encounter with the cold mistress will occur in Patch 2.4’s extension of the main storyline.
Three dungeons, tuned for four players, will also debut in Patch 2.4. Snowcloak, the first, is almost assuredly set in the Coerthas Central Highlands; its crystalline adornment and labyrinthine mountain pathways recall Final Fantasy X’s Mt. Gagazet and Lake Macalania. The other two dungeons are hard-mode variants of Sastasha (a pirate-occupied cavern) and the Sunken Temple of Qarn. The latter is a divisive dungeon, among the first to give low-level parties a true challenge. But hard-mode dungeons, while set in the same general location, feature new stories and different enemies.
As a major update, Patch 2.4 will add much more than a new boss and dungeons. We won’t have the full picture of content until closer to release, but we know the Rogue class and Ninja job are among the highlights. Yoshida shared a new video of Rogue and Ninja in action, showing off some skills and giving us a sense of how these DPS classes will play.
Stay glued to PSU for all things Final Fantasy XIV, and let us know how you’re getting on in Eorzea!
